6.0 Powerstroke FICM Problems: What the Symptoms Mean

The Fuel Injection Control Module supplies the high voltage used to actuate the 6.0's injectors. Voltage that falls out of range can contribute to rough starting or misfires, but battery condition, charging voltage, harness faults and injector condition still matter.

What Can Cause This Problem?

Internal FICM fault

Age and heat can affect the module's ability to maintain output under cranking and running load.

Low supply voltage

Weak batteries, cable voltage drop or a charging fault can stress the module and alter test results.

Harness or injector problem

Circuit faults and injector-side electrical problems can resemble a failed module.

How the Truck Should Be Tested

  1. 01

Load-test both batteries and inspect cable voltage drop.

  2. 02

Measure FICM logic, vehicle and main power during cranking and running.

  3. 03

Review injector contribution and circuit faults.

  4. 04

Repair the confirmed supply, module, wiring or injector fault and retest cold.

Before You Buy Parts

A voltage reading must be interpreted under load. A truck that reads normally key-on may fall out of range while cranking.
